Counseling SERVICES
Our mental health therapist, Maggie Yuce, LCSW-C, offers compassionate counseling for individual children, teens and young adults. Treating both kids who are new to therapy as well as those with diagnosed mental health conditions, Maggie can help clients to navigate feelings of sadness or anxiety, fine-tune their social skills, develop self-management skills, improve their interpersonal relationships, and learn coping skills that will serve them for years to come.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Prior to your first session, you will be requested to complete an intake packet, which will provide your therapist with important information to prepare for your first appointment. That first appointment will generally be 50 minutes long and will include a review of the intake packet, any relevant assessments, screenings for depression and suicide risk where appropriate, and plenty of time for questions. If the client is comfortable meeting one-on-one with Maggie, the parent/caregiver will be invited to join the session shortly before it concludes, at which point Maggie will share her findings as well as recommendations for continuing treatment if indicated.
Follow-up sessions may be scheduled in the office or via text or phone.
COUNSELING RATES
Counseling services, whether for individual clients or for families, are priced at $175.00 per session. Parents/caregivers are required to place a credit card on file at their first session, which will be charged upon check-in for each subsequent session. We are unable to bill counseling services to insurance, but are happy to provide a superbill upon request, should you wish to request reimbursement from your insurance.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What age of patients do you see?
Maggie’s clients range from preschoolers through young adults (approximately 21 years old). Occasionally, she may recommend that a minor client’s parent, or the family as a unit, be seen for a session to support the client’s progress.
What forms do I need to complete before my first appointment?
Before the first appointment, you will receive a link via text and email, inviting you to complete an intake packet. Filling out this package in detail gives Maggie the opportunity to understand more about the client, their health and social history, and any current concerns, all in preparation for your visit. This saves your therapist time in the first session to focus on what is most important to you.
How long will treatment last?
It can be difficult to predict exactly how long it will take to meet your treatment goals. Some challenges can be addressed in one or two sessions, while others may take several months. During your intake session we will discuss your goals and set a target date for discharge.
Generally, counseling sessions are 50 minutes, anywhere from weekly to 1-3 times per month, depending on the client's needs and schedule.
Are appointments in person or virtual?
Counseling appointments at Parker Place are typically conducted here in the office, to support your child in developing a rapport with their therapist. Telehealth appointments are available in the event that a client is unable to attend in person due to illness, transportation issues, etc.
What are signs that my child may benefit from counseling/therapy?
Changes in sleep or eating patterns
Changes in hygiene
Withdrawal or isolation from family and/or friends
Less interest in activities they used to find enjoyable
Low self worth
Self harming behaviors
Comments about hopelessness or death
Crying more than usual
Severe mood swings
Excessive worry
Compulsions and obsessive behaviors
What mental health diagnoses do you treat?
At Parker Place we are able to provide counseling services for a variety of mental health disorders including, but not limited to:
Anxiety
Depression
Post-traumatic stress disorder
Substance use
Obsessive compulsive disorder
Adjustment disorder
Do you treat eating disorders?
Eating disorders are highly complex, with serious physical and psychological impact. While we are able to assess a child for any mental health challenges that may have been caused by - or existed prior to - an eating disorder, we will refer your family to a multidisciplinary practice specializing in eating disorders for primary treatment. Please contact our office, or ask your provider, if you would like a list of eating disorder clinics and resources.
Do you offer medication management?
Our mental and behavioral health services encompass counseling only, and we cannot prescribe or refill medications for mental health conditions. We are happy, however, to provide a list of psychiatrists who can help.
Which clients may not be a good fit for counseling at Parker Place?
It’s important to us that all children and teens receive the level of care that meets their needs. In rare instances, a prospective client may exhibit behaviors or have diagnoses that indicate that more intensive mental health support is necessary. For example, kids with a history of violent or excessively aggressive behaviors, a severe condition such as Reactive Attachment Disorder, or who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis will likely be better served by other specialists. If, for any reason, Maggie feels that another provider or facility will be a better fit for your child, she will be happy to provide recommendations.
Do you accept insurance?
We are out-of-network with insurance for mental/behavioral health services, which means all session fees must be paid out-of-pocket at a rate of $175 per session. We are happy to provide a superbill if you would like to request reimbursement from your insurance plan.
For your convenience, we require a credit card on file for mental/behavioral health services. We will charge your session fee upon check-in at each appointment.
My child has been to counseling before and nothing changed. How will this time be different?
Counseling is all about the relationship between the client and therapist. Maggie prioritizes creating a trusting and safe space for clients to open up about their challenges. Things may be different this time, because we are ever-changing beings, so your child is likely different now compared to the first time they sought counseling. However, sometimes because of timing or personality differences, it just may not be a good fit. In this case, we can assist with a referral to a different practice.
Will I be involved in my child's therapy? Will you tell me what happens in their individual sessions?
Typically, the younger your child, the more you, as the parent, will be involved. If your child is a minor (under 18), you have the right to know what happens in sessions and any diagnoses given, as well as access to your child’s records. That being said, while we understand that you want to be a part of your child's treatment, we also must respect your child as an expert in their own lives and recognize that they may be more likely to open up in sessions if they know their therapist isn't relaying everything that they are sharing to their parents. However, it is important for all children and caregivers to know that their therapist will notify caregivers and the proper authorities (when necessary) if there are serious safety concerns.
